2. Using TIN Matching to reduce your B-Notices and eliminate Proposed Penalties

13. Payroll Tax Compliance

This topic provides best practices guidelines for payroll tax compliance. Participants learn the processes, controls and procedures to follow and keep your tax obligations paid on a timely basis. They learn the process for setting up new hires properly. Identify the steps to ensure all workers are properly classified as either employees or independent contractors and employees are properly classified as either FLSA exempt or nonexempt. We discuss form I-9 and why it must be prepared and evaluated within 3 days of employment. They will also learn the processes for gathering withholding information from employees on Form W-4 and the substantial revisions to this form due to the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. We evaluate best practices and related internal controls for processing your payrolls to ensure accurate payment of employees and computing all tax liabilities. Review Form 941 and proper filing guidelines. Finally, we review the processes for preparing and filing Forms W-2 and W-3. Participants will learn about the reconciliation process applied to the W-2's by the IRS and the Social Security Administration and how to ensure this will not be a problem for them after filing Forms W-2.
